House Committee Seeks Change in U.S.-China Trade

They propose revoking China’s permanent normal trade status.

The House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party released a report that supports significant objectives in the U.S.-China trade relationship.

“Since its accession to the World Trade Organization in 2001, the CCP has pursued a multi-decade campaign of economic aggression against the United States and its allies in the name of strategically decoupling the People’s Republic of China (PRC) from the global economy, making the PRC less dependent on the United States in critical sectors, while making the United States more dependent on the PRC,” the report states. “In response, the United States must now chart a new path that puts its national security, economic security, and values at the core of the U.S.-PRC relationship.”

One of the priorities would be to revoke the “most favored nation” status held by China, under which it receives preferential trade treatment. The committee also calls for increased transparency for investments made by U.S. companies or the government in China, requiring disclosure for publicly traded companies.

The legislators expressed concern over China’s “rampant theft of U.S. intellectual property,” being used to modernize China’s military and weapons programs.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For members of the House Select Committee in the Chinese Communist Party as they seek to adjust the trade relationship between the two nations.
  • For Chairman Mike Gallagher as he heads the committee.
  • For U.S. officials as they evaluate the impact of China on America’s economic and national security.
